FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

1. What is the minimum age to attend the school or take a course?
The minimum age is 18 years old, without a parent authorisation. If you are younger than 18, we require a parent authorisation.

2. When do I need a Visa?
A VISA is needed for everyone outside the EU. However for some countries like Australia, Argentina, Mexico, USA and some others, you can enter Italy without applying for a Visa if the stay doesn't exceed 90 days. If you want to know exactly whether you need a Visa, you can check it on the website of the Italian Ministery of Foreign Affairs. If you receive a study Visa, once you arrive in Italy you have to apply at the post office for the permit to stay (permesso di soggiorno) within 8 days.

3. What is the school procedure regarding visa applications?
For those students needing a Visa to attend an Italian course, Scuola Tricolore requires the full payment of the course. After which, the school sends to the student an enrolment certificate, an invoice, a letter for the embassy and some other documents needed to make the visa application.

4. How do I get to Genoa?
Genoa has a small airport which is a destination for several low cost airlines. Visit the following sites; Genoa airport and vueling, with the main connections from Genoa airport or other airports near Genoa. From other airports you can easliy take the train to Genoa (Nice, Pisa, Milano Malpensa).

5. What kind of insurance do I need?
Scuola Tricolore has a 'collective' student liability insurance in the school area. We also advice you to take a general holiday insurance at your insurance company.

6. What is the average age range of the participants?
The average age of participants is between 20 and 30 years old. There are of course older and younger students participating in our programs.

7. Do most people go on the program alone?
Yes, a large majority of participants go by themselves, so it's easy to make friends. You are in the same boat as everyone else, so you won't be alone.).

8. How long do most people study for?
Most people study for 4 to 6 weeks (on average).

9. How early should I enroll?
The sooner you enrol, the better it is especially in relation to the availability of courses and accommodation. But occasionally we receive subscriptions only a week up to some days before course commencement. The ideal moment would be 4 or 8 weeks before the course starts;

10. Should I take 6 or 4 hours per day?
It depends on you. Six hours of class time will enable you to learn more, but it also requires being in class most of the day and, after class, a some homework to be completed.

11. What if I need to cancel after the program starts?
There are no refunds after the program has started. You are however always entitled to continue the course on a future date, excepted applications with study visa which refer to a fixed starting and ending date.

12. What is Genoa famous for and can I get additional information on that?
Genoa has a rich history and it has the biggest medieval city centre in Europe. Genoa, in fact, dates back to pre-Roman times. It is surrounded both by the mountains, with a vast and impressive network of walls that protected Genoa from invasions by land and by the sea, which boasts the second biggest harbour in the Mediterranean. Furthermore, Genoa is the home of many famous Italian specialities, such as pesto and olive oil. Click on the links for more information.

13. How do I find my accommodation on arrival at the airport/ train station?
The school sends you the address and directions on how to reach your accommodation, including the prices for a bus ticket or estimated taxi fair.

14. Where do most students come from?
Our students come from all over the world. Many of the students come from Japan, South Korea, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, U.S.A., Australia, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, France, UK, Spain and Russia. Furthermore, we receive more and more information requests form other Asian countries, South American countries and African countries.

15. Can I change to a different course or temporarily interrupt a program during the course?
Generally this is possible. We however only 'reschedule' on a weekly basis and this needs to be comunicated in advance. Our programs are designed to be flexible. Extension of courses is neither a problem.

16. What happens if I am placed in a class that is not my level??
Our thorough assessment will limit this to a minimum, if not exclude it. If you still think this is the case you should inform your teacher, who will immediately reschedule and direct you to the proper class and level and provide you with new studying material.

17. How can I pay for the course?
Scuola Tricolore requires a down payment of €200,- to reserve both course and accommodation. You could pay either by bank transfer, international post money order, or by credit card online. The later option is available at a 4% charge. The course residual and accommodation can be paid on arrival. The school accepts credit card payments at school (except for American Express).

18. At what time are the classes scheduled?
Group classes always start at 9:30 (until 13:15) in the morning, except for the first course day, as you will be asked to come to school 45 minutes earlier for the entrance test. Individual classes are typically scheduled after lunch, but can also be scheduled late-afternoon, evening or in certain cases in the morning.
